Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home - Montrose Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John F. Collins, Jr. on October 22, 2025, just five days after his 77th birthday.

John was predeceased by his parents, Frances (Bell) and John F. Collins, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Shirley Collins; his daughter, Nicole Collins Peet; and Shirley’s daughters, Jennifer (Scott) Shelp and Kelly (Lee) Kuehn. He is also survived by grandchildren Taylor (Justin) Hughes, Zachary Peet, Brett Shelp, Travis Novakowski (Taylor), Lucas Kuehn, and Abby Shelp; great-grandchild Jackson Roger Hughes; his brother and sister-in-law, William and Lori Collins. Also, sisters of Shirley, Connie (Tom) Goff and Bonnie (Don) Johnson; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Born and raised in Binghamton, NY, John spent the last 27 years residing in Montrose, PA and had grown to love the country life. He was a graduate of Binghamton North High School and Broome Community College. John was employed by Singer Link and most recently Binghamton University until his retirement.

John was a gentle man who found his greatest joy in spending time with his family and pets. He was especially devoted to his beloved dogs, Sara and Abraham, who brought him endless companionship and joy. He will be joyfully reunited with them, along with other cherished pets who have already crossed the rainbow bridge. John also loved to cook and proudly considered himself a bit of a pizza connoisseur.

He also cherished the special times he shared with his father-in-law, Clyde, with whom he had a close and meaningful bond. He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Binghamton, NY.

Services for John will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in John’s memory to True Friends Animal Shelter, Montrose, PA or a shelter of your choice.

Not sure what to say?

Shirley, we are so sorry for the loss of your husband John. Keep your memories close to your heart and may for love of family and friends help you through this time of grief. Most sincerely, Theora and Charlie Hower

John was a good, humble, quiet, Christian man. When he wasn’t taking care of the family he loved, he was chef, handyman, landscaper, driver and pet wrangler. We all enjoyed his delicious homemade lasagna and Thanksgiving turkeys. He enjoyed taking care of their home, making repairs, painting, installing hardwood floors and taking care of the lawn. He made countless trips taking his in-laws, Clyde and Betty, to shop, medical appointments, family gatherings or just for a ride. And any dog...
