John Alfred Tindell, age 89, of Union Valley, Perry County Arkansas, went home to be with Jesus, Sunday, January 31, 2010. He was born in Union Valley (Calf neck) April 10, 1920, the Eldest son of Vern Tindell and Susie Waller Tindell, who both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Verna Tindell and Willie Tindell and three others who died in infancy. He was a Christian and a faithful member of Union Valley Baptist Church where he was a Deacon for many years. He was a combat veteran of World War II, serving in the 87th Regiment of the 10th Mountain infantry in the Aleutians and in Italy where he won a bronze star for valor. He was a Master Mason and member of Perryville Lodge #238. He served several terms as Justice of the Peace from Union Valley. He was a farmer and a House painter and retired from the U.S. Forest Service. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jessie Lee "Tommie" Boles Tindell of Union Valley; seven sons, John V. Tindell of Harris Brake, Verna C. Tindell (Nancy), William E. Tindell (Joyce), Eugene R. Tindell (Karen), Jimmy C. Tindell (Carla), Glen D. Tindell (Linda), and Billy J. Tindell all of Union Valley; two daughters, Sheila Hamblen (Randy) of Bigelow, and Geneva Ellis (Brent) of Union Valley; one sister, Rea Belk of Union Valley; and one brother, Earl Tindell (Janet) of Hot Springs; fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at Union Valley Baptist Church with Bro. Danny Barker, Bro. Stan Wallace, and Bro. Dennis Corder officiating. Burial will be at Cook Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers will be Tom Moody, David Myers, Bob Tolley, Johnny Belk, Floyd Blakeney, and Darrell Doughty. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Tolley, Buddy Metcalf, Palmer Myers, B.A. Ellis, Randy Hamblen, and Dennis Ware.
