Mueller, Karl-Heinz, M.D. Of Elm Grove, Wisconsin, died March 11, 2009, at the age of 85. He was born on December 17, 1923, in Kirn-an-der-Nahe, Germany, the son of Karl and Katharina Mueller. Karl obtained his medical degree from the Gutenberg University School of Medicine in 1953, and subsequently performed his residency at the U.S. Army 98th General Hospital in Neubruecke, Germany. In 1958, he moved to the United States as a Fullbright Fellow in Orthopaedic Surgery, practicing in Erie, Pennsylvania and in Chicago, Illinois, prior to settling in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Karl was engaged in private practice in Brookfield and West Allis, Wisconsin, in addition to having served as a past Chief of Orthopaedics at Elmbrook Memorial and West Allis Memorial Hospitals. During his career, he also served as a Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and the Marienhoehe University Hospital, Aachen, Germany. He also served as a frequent guest lecturer for the Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, presenting throughout the United States and abroad. Following his retirement from active practice in 1980, Karl continued to be active in the medical field by translating English and German medical textbooks for the publishing firms Thieme and Saunders/Schattauer. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Agnes H. Mueller-Schmitz, his children Hendrik, Isabell, Jan (Gina) and Andre (Maureen), his grandchildren Joshua, Nathan, Leopold and Fredrica, as well as his sister Dr. Lieselotte (Martin) Hoffmann-Mueller, of Moenchen-Gladbach, Germany. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 17, 2009, 9:30AM-11:00AM at St. Mary's Visitation Parish (1260 Church St., in Elm Grove) followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM. Internment following, St. Mary's Visitation Cemetery.
