I was blessed to know Joe and done with him often. We loved our weekly poker (banter) game.... A very smart man- enormous brain and a wonderful heart.

I went to high school with Joe in Bremerton, Washington. He and his brother Chuck were my good friends and roommates for years afterward, until military service, wives, other interests and life intervened. We talked briefly a few years ago, but sadly, I never got to see him again. His self-assured ease at accomplishing anything he tried always amazed me. His humor and his smile always left me feeling good. I will miss him.

I'm happy I got to know him, although on a surface level, and after reading his obituary, wish I had engaged in more in depth conversations. My sincere regrets to his family and to Gloria, as well.

I have a relative in the Air Force who is stationed there now, perhaps doing what he did, maybe even sitting at the same desk. Dr. Scifers used his abilities to benefit many, many...
