Lee Kunz Obituary

Lee R. Kunz, Sr. was born into this world as the son of sharecroppers in Stafford, Kansas during the Depression and Midwest Dustbowls. The family was forced to farm without irrigation and then lost their tenancy. The family moved to Wheat Ridge, Colorado in 1942. Lee and his brothers then attended Wheat Ridge High School. Lee became president of his class and won the Evans Scholarship to Denver University. When Lee turned 18 he left D. U. and enrolled in the Navy during WWII. He was a signalman, landing our planes on aircraft carriers at Pearl Harbor. After the war ended Lee returned to D. U. and earned his degree. Lee and his brothers Harold and Eldon won the contract to feed 700 migrant workers for the Western Sugar Company, at numerous locations around the United States. For seven long years they earned the seed money to be able to start building houses. The Kunz Brothers then transitioned into commercial construction, forming Kunz Construction. Lee then met the women of his dreams, Beverly Larsen, and within six months they were married. Lee and Bev had two children, Kandie (Dave) and Lee (Maria). Seven grandchildren, Nicole (Jaime), Lee Roy, Kane, Cassie (Jade), Zac (Heather), Ryan, and Colby (Hillary). Two great grandchildren, Sarah Grace and Ryder. Lee R. Kunz Sr. was an extraordinary entrepreneur, husband, caretaker, father, son, brother, friend and grandpa. A memorial service will be held at Noon on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery's Chapel of Peace, 7777 W. 29 th Ave. in Wheat Ridge, CO 80033. Private entombment will take place that morning at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery's Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
