For some reason I was led to see where Dr. Chavis was these days. He couldn't be happier. He made such an impression on me as a teenager that much later when I was pastor of a church in Tennessee I had him come and preach at the church. I was a bus kid from the church in Delaware in the late 60's. he preached for me in the early 90's. I'm still pastoring and look forward to seeing him again.

Harvey & I meet Jean & Len in Albany, Ga. in 1961. Our pastor in Fort Worth, David Cavin, said to look for Len's church when we get to Albany! Almost missed it, just a small store front. Saw the people standing out front after church. Stopped & meet Len & Jean. Within a day or two, Jean & a few ladies from church were at our door. That was the start of a long lasting friendship. Len & Jean prayed us through some rough times & I will always cherish my memories of pizza & long talks after church! Our love & prayers & tears are with you.

Mrs. Chavis & family,
Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Just last week I actually said to myself that I wanted to send Preacher Chavis a get well card and just let him know how much I appreciated what I learned thru him while attending LRBC. Why do we put off things when the next moment is so uncertain? The Preacher was a wonderful teacher, preacher and person as a whole, and so talented! He will truly be missed!

When my wife and I were young deputation missionaries, Pastor Chavis not only had us to his church and took us on for support right away. But because we had a gap in our schedule he graciously put us up in a hotel for a few days, until it was time to hit the road again. I'll always appreciate the kind investment in us.
