I'm so sorry Mrs. Braverman and family for your loss I met Dr. Braverman in 1972 when I was 11 years old. Dr. Braverman saved my life. After many visits to different hospitals Dr. Braverman took one glance at me and knew immediately how sick I was. My heart is broken. I haven't seen him in years but think of him often. I will always remember his kindness and silly sense of humor. I know how hard Dr. Braverman worked to make me get better. Rest In peace my dear friend!

I met Dr. Braverman when I was in my 20's; he was a towering figure taking care of my thyroid cancer. Over decades and three recurrences, we became close friends. I loved his relationship with his students as well as with colleagues who studied my unusual medical case. When I exhibited my paintings in Boston, after he worked all day at Boston Medical, and in spite of 20 degrees below zero, he showed up at the reception. He told the curator, "I want to retire, but I can't, because I keep her here." (I am now in the hands of one of his students). When he retired, he emailed me, "I will miss you." I feel the same.

He took care of my husband after Jim had his thyroid removed, treated us both like he had all the time in the world.
Brilliant man, he will be missed.

Dr Braverman cared for the wife of my primary care doctor, M. Frederick Northrop in Plymouth, so it was an easy in to see him when I developed a thyroid tumor in 2005. He would ONLY recommend Dr Braverman. During my annual visits in to BUMC check my levels, I was struck by how much he remembered about me personally; from my graduate school, through an awful divorce, he always wanted to know how my daughter and I were doing. This morning, I googled Dr Braverman from my daughters primary care to get a referral for HER to be treated by him and was shocked and saddened to learn that he had passed only last week. Please know how often he spoke with me about how blessed he was with such an incredible family. He was truly amazed by his role of being a grandfather and adored the children so very much. Wishing all of your family peace and happy memories of Dr Braverman.

Dr. Braverman has been taking care of me since 2011. I had my thyroid removed by Dr. Duante in Plymouth, Ma. Dr. D was friends with Dr B. said I'm sending you to the BEST. I will miss him very much. He was so good with us, made us feel important. Never a rush, always talked to be sure how we were doing. Will keep his family in my prayers.

Dr. Braverman was already a legend when I met him. His sincerity, accessibility, and pure willingness and interest in young trainees was unique and amazing. How many living legends sit down for lunch with a few residents just to share stories? And they were amazing stories- many of which now form the foundation of an entire field of medicine. From his humble personality, you'd never guess he literally wrote the book on the Thyroid and revolutionized a field of medicine. Even for those of us who didn't follow directly in his footsteps, having known him and learned from him was an honor and we are all better physicians (and likely better people) for having had him as a role model.

My condolences to Mimi and family. We were so lucky to have seen Dr. B recently and so glad he could meet my son which he had wanted to do for the past few years. I would not be doing what I'm doing today if it had not been for him. I distinctly recall him paging me on a Friday night many years ago during my rotation in the ICU at the VA because he had not received my fellowship application. I had thought I would take a year off after residency. He wasn't going to take no for an answer and pretty much ordered me to get it all together as he was scheduling meetings with the staff during the Christmas holidays. I loved being an Endocrine Fellow under his leadership and can't think of a better specialty. I will forever be indebted to him for that. He was a great man with a great mind and a big heart. We will miss you more than you can imagine. Thank you and rest in peace.

It is with deep sorrow that I learned today of the passing away two days ago of my old mentor and teacher, Professor Lewis E. Braverman of Boston University. I had the privilege of being one of the great many endocrinologists who trained under his supervision and guidance, at Tufts University, U. Mass. Med. Ctr. and lastly at Boston University. Dr. Braverman was a great teacher, scientist, researcher and above all a master clinician. I and many of his old students, residents and fellows are deeply saddened by his loss. He will be always remembered.
Dr. Braverman has visited our country, Jordan, as an invited guest speaker on two occasions, in 1981 and 2007, upon my personal invitation. I send my heartiest condolences to his wife, Miriam, and his sons and his grandchildren. May his soul Rest In Peace.

The best physician in the world! Rest in Peace Sir!

My mother, who is now 96, was referred to Dr. Braverman many years ago and traveled from Springfield to see him regularly for a difficult medical condition. She was sad to learn that he had died and said upon hearing it, "I love Dr. Braverman" which says it all.

Lew was a legend and a true giant in the thyroid field not only for his clinical and scientific accomplishments but also for his wonderful care to countless numbers of grateful patients. I knew him as a dear colleague and friend--"Uncle Lew"--who was a most charming and caring man. Losing you has hit the Chin family hard as Denise and I will miss you dearly. Our deepest condolences to Mimi, Billy and Danny and the rest of the extended Braverman family. You were the loves of his life. Bill Chin

It was an honor to know Dr Braverman. His name was written on a small piece of paper as someone who was interested in the history of outsiders in medicine in Boston. After a conversation he encouraged me to write about my dad, Dr Saul Hertz who solely conceived of the medical uses of radioiodine(RAI) and brought from bench to bedside the successful use of RAI to diagnose and treat thyroid diseases. Dr Braverman appreciated the many challenges that Dr Hertz faced to bring his work to fruition. Dr Braverman gave of his time, effort and expertise to share the truthful history with several presentations at Harvard Medical School and at The American Association of Clinical Endocrinoplogist's symposium. Dr Braverman used his exceptional intellect and kind heart to offer supurb care to his patients, to do research, to establish and support professional organizations, train fellows and so much more to extend the area of thyroid medicine. I am truly grateful to have had the opportunity to have known him and will miss him dearly.

Dr. Braverman was my physician 50 years ago when he was at St Elizabeth's Hospital. He had a wonderful sense of humor and we had many laughs together. At one point I ended up in the hospital. I brought a carton of Pall Malls and a bottle of Canadian Club with me. The Canadian Club was ok but I got a stern lecture about the cigarettes. I was very disappointed when he moved to Worcester. The commute was too far for me to remain a member of his practice. When he returned to N.E. Medical Center I dropped in to say hello. I was very sorry to learn he died, he was wonderful man.
