Lois M. Hegarty, mother and grammy, of Pine Street, Tamaqua, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, at Lehigh Valley Hospital - East, Pottsville, at the age of 87.
Widow of David J. Hegarty, who passed away on Jan. 17, 2010, she is survived by sons, David J., and his fiancee, Margaret Schock, and Sean, and his wife, Marian, both of Tamaqua; grandchildren, Sherry Bynon, Carla and her husband, Manny Najarro, Kellie Hegarty, and her husband, Shane Murphy, Kerri and her husband, Joshua Acosta; great-grandchildren Alexis Higgins, Zane Bynon, Maximus Najarro, Corabel Najarro and Roman Murphy; and many nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of the former Delano High School.
As a young woman, Lois was a waitress at the former Five Point's Diner in Tamaqua, and this is where she met her husband, Dave. Lois worked for the former Atlas Powder Co. of Reynolds.
She was a member of St. John XX III Catholic Church of Tamaqua and a member of the Tamaqua Legion Clarence H. Berry Post Ladies Auxiliary since 1950.
Devoted to her family, she was an excellent baker and wonderful mother and grammy.
Born Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1931, in Quakake, the daughter of the late Elmer and Sara (Herring) Bachert, Lois was their last surviving child.
Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. in St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 307 Pine St., Tamaqua. Friends may call on Monday, Oct. 1, at the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in parish cemetery. Memorials in her name to: Tamaqua Legion, 206 W.
