Lucile Hicks Obituary

Lucile Hicks
January 18, 2022
Lucile Green Hicks of Greenwich, age 89, passed away January 18, 2022. Lou, as she was affectionately known by all who loved her, was born in 1932 in Chicago, Illinois. She has lived in Greenwich, CT since 1966. Most recently, Lou resided at Edgehill where she was surrounded by good friends, that brought her wonderful companionship during her years there.
Lou lived a fulfilling life as a wife, mother, grandmother, and artist. She brought so much joy to the lives of her family and friends, with an indomitable spirit that will be greatly missed.
Lou is survived by her three sons, Paul (Caye), Peter (Jeanie), and Tom (Lee), as well as her four grandchildren, Mary Grace (Wyot), Hope, Patrick and Carter and great grandson Rhodes. Lou was predeceased by husband Paul B. Hicks Jr. brother Charles Green and survived by brother Robert Green.
Lou was a graduate of Northwestern University and made a career as a professional artist. Her paintings and prints were featured nationally and internationally in solo and two person exhibitions, group shows and seven published books. Her collections are archived in the Library of Congress, universities, and museums including the world-renowned Museum of Modern Art.
The family extends their sincere gratitude for shared condolences. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Vermont Arts Center. A memorial service will be held in the spring to celebrate Lou's remarkable life.

My deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Lou. We joined the board of The Vermont Studio Center at the same time and spent many lovely hours together in Vermont and studio visits in NY. She will be missed. Rest in Peace dear Lou.

We will all miss Lou's cheerful presence in the halls and sitting areas at Edgehill. Lou was a wonderful and welcoming friend to our mother since she moved here in 2013. I personally enjoyed a few outings with my mother and Lou - a trip together to the Glass House in New Canaan, and best of all a visit to Lou's art studio. Lou always had warm greetings for us every time we saw her, and a kind message to take to our mother on the way upstairs. We send you our deepest sympathy at this difficult time.

Dear Paul,
Mary Lindsay and I send our condolences on the passing of your mom dear (Lou). Lou was my daily Mass companion at St. Mary's. I first met your dad(Paul) at a Milbrook M/G. They raised three great sons! Like St. Paul Lou fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith ?
May she rest with the Angels.

Sad to learn of Lou's passing. She was one of the finest people we ever known in Greenwich. Her grace and dignity, artistry and wit were available to all. A fine and decent soul to her depths, we'll not forget her soon. Everyone who knew Lou was the better for it. Peace!

I have wonderful memories of Lou...and Paul ...close friends of my parents and family for many years in Milbrook. Lou was always so down to earth and real. Always picture her with my Mum, Jean Ward, Bobbie Posey, Annie Ryan and Mrs Holland. She will be sorely missed. Condolences and prayers for the family. (Vividly remember our time with Peter in Perth). Richard and Gay
