Lucille Irene Stolz, 93, Bismarck, formerly of Steele, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at the Baptist Health Care Center in Bismarck. Private family services were held.
Lucille was born on September 21, 1929, in Fredonia, ND, the daughter of Gottholt and Pauline (Martel) Schill. She was raised and educated in that area and graduated from Lehr High School in 1947. Lucille then went on and earned her teaching certificate and taught country school in Ellendale, ND.
On June 18, 1950, she married Robert “Bob” J. Stolz in Lehr, ND. They made their home together in Lehr and their family grew as they welcomed six children, Keith, Dean, Tim, Steve, Sue and John. After she and Bob married, Lucille stopped teaching worked as a store clerk at Grenz General Store. In 1969 the family moved to Steele where she first worked for Tollefson’s Super Value and in 1973 she went to work at Steele Drug, where she worked until she retired.
Lucille and Bob later moved to Bismarck and on January 18, 2011, Bob, her husband of almost 60 years, passed away. Shortly after Bob’s death she moved into Edgewood Healthcare Retirement Home in Bismarck. As the affects of Dementia/Alzheimer’s increased, she was ultimately moved to Baptist Heath Care Center in Bismarck.
Lucille and Bob enjoyed spending time together with family and did a lot of camping, fishing, and traveling. She was always very active and on the go. She enjoyed gardening, canning and baking. Her house was always immaculate and even though she claimed she was not a very good cook, her kids said they were always well fed.
She enjoyed many hobbies over the years, from the macramé craze of the 70’s, doll making, crochet, knitting, to needle point. She never seemed to be idle. Even when she did slow down enough to sit she was probably reading. She loved to read.
While living in Lehr, she and Bob were active members of Ebenezer Baptist Church. In Steele, they became members of the United Methodist Church and Lucille was active in the United Methodist Women’s Fellowship. She and Bob were members of a home Bible study with a number of other couples from the church. They took turns meeting in each other’s homes and did this for over 30 years. She had a strong love for the Lord and her faith was something she instilled in her family.
She is survived by her children, Keith Stolz, Dean (Denise) Stolz, Tim (Corinne) Stolz, Steve (Deana) Stolz, Sue (Steve) Knodel and John (Donna) Stolz; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sisters, Brenda (Ronald) Boyd and Sherlet Donnelly and several nieces and nephews.
