Viewing Friday December 2, 2011 from 1Pm Until 8Pm at the Stinson Northwest Chapel Located 16540 Meyers Road at the John Lodge Fwy. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 11AM at New Prospect Baptist Church 6330 Pembroke Detroit, MI with a 10AM Family Hour. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery.
Magnolia Tounsel was born on September 9, 1921, to the union of the late Silas Morrow and Beulah Morrow in Turner, Arkansas. She was the third oldest of thirteen children. Magnolia accepted Christ at an early age and was baptised in Turner, Arkansas.
On August 13, 1942, Magnolia was united in marriage to David James Tounsel, Sr. To this union five children were born. Four years after their marriage began they moved to Detroit, Michigan
Magnolia attended Fargo Agriculture School in the Arkansas Phillip County Public School System. She continued her studies after arriving in Detroit by enrolling in classes at Ferndale Adult Education, attending Lewis Business College, and Oakland Community College.
In addition to being a devoted mother and homemaker, Magnolia was very active in community services. She served as Secretary of the U.S. Grant Elementary School Parent Teacher Association (PTA), a member of the Mitchedale/Cloverdale Block Club, on the New Prospect Baptist Church Deaconess Ministry, and as a Grant School Girl Scout Leader. After her children were grown, she worked at Fireman's Fund Insurance Company in the premium Aduit Department. She retired from Fireman's Fund after ten years of service.
Magnolia joined New Prospect Church in 1947, and was actively involved in the Deaconess Ministry. She assisted with communion and baptism. Magnolia visited the sick and those who were confined to their homes. She took great delight in working closely with Paastor Johnson.
Magnolia was an avid bowler and she received a number of bowling trophies thoughtout the span of her life. Magnolia believed in having and maintaining a strong family bond. Therefore she often assumed the leadership role of organizing family reunions. She also hosted most of the family birthday celebration in her home. Magolia was a very caring and sypathetic person and was always ready to support family and friends during their times of need. She loved gardening and readily shared the produce with neighborhors, family and anyone else in need.
On November 26, 2011, she transitioned from mortality to eternal life. Her Daniel James Tounsel, Sr. and her son Nathan McKinley Tounsel, Esq. preceeded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory, five children: Ulysess (Charline), LaVora (Leo), Vernon, Sr. Daniel, Jr. (Cerise) and an adopted daughter, Caroline (Ronald); nine grandchildren: Tommie (Kimberly), Derek (Christine), Tanya, Vernon Jr., Adrienne, Daniel, III, Michael, Jessica and Kellie; six great-grandchildren; three sisters Ada Hull, Emma Taylor, and Mary Burgess (Jasper); three brothers; Nelson Morrow (doris), Wendell Morrow (Anita), Floyd Morrow (Genotrice); and a host of other relatives and friends.
