Marlys Ann Dawes (Knepke) was born on June 26, 1945, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where she also spent her final days on October 30, 2025. Marlys was a beloved figure, not just within her family but in the wider community, especially as an Elementary Teachers Aide. She dedicated her life to nurturing and guiding young minds, leaving a lasting impact on many.
Marlys was deeply connected to her roots and cherished the simple joys of life. Among her many interests, she had a special love for black bears, a testament to her gentle and nurturing spirit.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, Perry Dawes, along with a loving family that includes her daughter, Kris (Tim) Johnson, her son, Richard Winger, and her grandson Ryan Johnson, granddaughter, Jessica (Jason) Schneider, along with their children. Marlys also shared a close bond with her sister, Arlene Smidt, and had numerous nieces and nephews who will carry on her legacy of warmth and kindness.
Marlys is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, who welcomed her home after her meaningful journey through life.
The community will have an opportunity to celebrate her life at a funeral service to be held on November 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes in Cheyenne. Following the service, her burial will take place at Cheyenne National Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
Marlys Ann Dawes will be remembered for her compassionate heart, her joyful spirit, and the love she shared with those around her. She will be missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
