Sunapee, NH-Maurice E. Collins, 94, of North Road, died Wednesday,
April 25, 2012 at his home. He was born in Georges Mills, NH on January
19, 1918 the son of Verto R. and Ella M. (Pillsbury) Collins, Sr.

He graduated from Sunapee High School in 1936 and then went to work
on experimental aircraft for Granville Brothers in MA. During WWII
and up until 1946, Mr. Collins worked for Chance Voight Aircraft in CT.
He moved back to Sunapee in 1946 where he built his home and was
a carpenter working for his father at V.R. Collins and Sons and then for
himself. Mr. Collins retired from carpentry in 1983.

He was a member of Sunapee Region Archers and was active in its
formation. He was also a member of NH Bowmen and NRA. Mr. Collins
loved to hunt with a rifle and a bow. He enjoyed his CB radio and his
Ham radio. An excellent craftsman he could build anything and when
he was a young man and then again in his retirement, made an
ice boat. About six years ago he took it out on Otter Pond for a ride.
Mr. Collins made radio controlled model airplanes and then would go
out in his boat and take pictures as the airplanes would soar overhead.
Having a real interest in flying, he took flying lessons as a young boy from
Ed Spooner in Claremont and then he and his new bride took an airplane
ride rather than a honeymoon. He also enjoyed fishing, smelting, clock
repair and chair caning.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Chambers) Collins, in 2003.
Members of his family surviving include his daughter, Ann Johnson of
Sunapee, NH; two granddaughters, Kim and her husband, Brad Russell of
Sunapee, NH and Michelle Morrow of Albany, NY; one great grandson,
Benjamin Collins Russell; nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 11:00 A.M.
in Eastman Cemetery, Sunapee, NH. Memorial contributions may be
made to the NRA, P.O. Box 420648, Palm Coast, FL 32142-0648 or to
the Upper Valley Humane Society, 300 Old Route 10, Enfield, NH 03748.
