Mrs. Atwood happened to be my favorite teacher of all time.
She was a wonderful person who always wore a smile and had a true sense of humor that matched her kind and gentle soul.

I had the great privilege of working in the English department with Maurine at Westlake High School from 1983-1987, and also during my student teaching in 1982. She was the best mentor a young teacher could have ever had, and I respected her tremendously. Later on, I was active in the book club the English department formed, and became very close to her.
