Mrs. Mavis Lillian Jennings Bishop, 91, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Friday evening, October 24, 2025, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Ernest “Red” Bishop.
Born October 29,1933, in Peterborough, England, she was the daughter of the late Cecil Jennings and Ethel Jennings. She met the love of her life while he was stationed in England. Mrs. Mavis was a retired bank teller, having worked for First National Bank of South Carolina and Bank of Walterboro. She was faithful in her service as a bookkeeper under her husband for the iconic Bishop Logging, which eventually saw three generations of family service. She was a dedicated member of Grace Advent Christian Church.
She is survived by her children, Danny Bishop and his wife Gayle of Walterboro and Bonnie Bishop Tracy and her husband Wayne of Walterboro; daughters-in-law, Julie Maxcey Bishop of Walterboro and Linda Blocker Bishop of Carrboro, North Carolina; brother, David Jennings of England; 7 grandchildren, Andrea Bishop, Shelby Bishop (Sunny), Chad Bishop (Leslie), Susan Bishop, Cindi Bishop, Summer Bishop, Ryan Bishop (Abby); and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded death by her sons, Billy Bishop and Adrian Bishop; six sisters; and 3 brothers.
Funeral services will be held 2 o’clock Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Grace Advent Christian Church, 398 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro. The Reverend Wayne Lucas officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 pm until the hour of service in the church sanctuary.
