Monetta Griffin Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

July 5, 1917 - May 5, 2004 Monetta Griffin was born in Oglesby, Texas, on July 5, 1917. She passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2004, at the age of 86. Monetta moved to Austin following graduation from Oglesby High School and was a resident of Austin throughout the balance of her life. Monetta retired from the predecessor of the current Frost National Bank in 1994, at the age of 77. She was a popular lobby teller at the bank where often there would be a line of bank customers waiting to be served by her while other available windows with willing and competent tellers remained unused. Monetta will be remembered as the life of the party, the best source of a movie review, and a great wit with a new joke guaranteed to evoke laughter. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony C. ``Tony' Griffin, as well as her parents and four of her five siblings. She is survived by her two sons, Jerry Griffin and his wife, Sally of Austin, Tom W. Griffin of Aurora, Colorado; her sister, Marie W. Collier of Ft. Worth, Texas, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2004, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2004, at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Griffin's honor to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 W. 168th St., New York, NY 10032.
