Nathan "Nate" Johns 30, was tragically taken from his family, on March 13th, 2009, at his home in Lincoln. Nathan was born on December 29th, 1978 in Decatur, Ill. to Rick and Cheral Johns. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Crete, Neb. He attended St. James Catholic School, Crete Public Schools and later, Lincoln High School.
Nathan held his family, above all, his sisters, Vonnell and Amber, in high regard, was very close to his brother, Matt and nieces and nephews; especially, Desiray, his "awe-inspiring" niece. Nathan was a former employee of Valentino's, for three years, as a dishwasher. He worked at various food service and cleaning jobs. Nathan was always very neat and tidy. He had an eye for detail and took great pride in his appearance. He was an extremely helpful and caring man, always willing to help at any time. Nathan had many friends from all walks of life and cultures. Nathan was extremely close to his grandparents, his late Grandpa John Poppas and his Grandma Poppas. He spent many days of each week with his Grandma Clark, who assisted him faithfully with the responsibilities of his life.
He is survived by: mother, Cheral (Poppas) and step-father, Duane Powell of Waverly; father, Rick Johns and step-mother, Janice (Zajicek), of rural Denton; Grandmothers, Helen Poppas and Mary Lou Clark, both of Lincoln; sisters, Vonnell Briggs of Lincoln, Amber Johns of Omaha; brother, Matthew Farewell of Tuscon, Ariz.; step-siblings, Justin and Travis Powell of Lincoln, Adrienne Blake of Crete, Briana Bowdino of Gretna, Aaron Clark of Lincoln, and Kelsey Janda of rural Denton; Uncles, James Poppas of Bennet, Frank Poppas and wife, Norma of Sterling; nieces and nephews, Kaylee, Michol, Khalia, Reggie Jr., Desiray and numerous, extended and step-family. Nathan was preceded in death by: Grandfathers, Don Clark, and John Poppas; step-sister, Jennifer Powell and step-mother, Mary Ann Johns.
Visitation on Tuesday, March 17th, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete. Funeral at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18th. Graveside services at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, West Highway 33. Luncheon at VFW in Crete following graveside services. Memorials to the LightHouse in Lincoln.
