To my second father, you accepted me in to your family after I asked you if I could marry your youngest daughter Susan one evening when I was on leave from the Army.. Since I was in the Army at the time we hit it off right off the bat, talking about your missions in Europe during the Normandy invasion and the places you traveled after that each day. I learned so much about what you had to go through even though I was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany during a peace time campaign. We had so much to talk about regarding the places you marched through and the places we just campaigned through. After so many years things weren't that different in the places I visited. When we would come and visit you and mom on weekends, we would then head down to the Bergenfield Elks Lodge #1477 for a few beers each night with some of the old crowd you hung around with. In Bergrenfield you talked me into becoming an ELK member right away, your stories of the work you did to tear down the old house and start building the current building that stands there today were amazing. I have now entered into my 25th year as a member in the Loveland, CO, Elks # 1051 and enjoy every year since. When I'm traveling throughout the United States, I would stop into any local Elks Lodges just to get a bite to eat and a beer. Things are always different in each of these facilities. All I can say is Thank You for allowing me to grow into your family and being part of these different Elks organizations. I will miss our time talking about old times and the places you visited during you WWII campaigns defending our country. You were the best second father a young man could ask for who lost his father so young in my life, Thank you for being the man you were and helping me grow to the man I am today. Love you your Son-In-Law
