Reuben R. Spencer, Sr. went peacefully to rest on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at home under the care of Gentiva Hospice at the blessed age of 90. He was born on April 4, 1925 to Gertrude and Ollie Spencer in Camden, Alabama. He was the 1st of seven children.
He was a faithful member of Greater Mt Olive Baptist Church #2 for over 70 years. He retired from the Regions Bank. Then cheered and encouraged others as he continued on to work throughout his 70?s as a greeter at Wal-Mart.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gertrude and Ollie Spencer; his brother Elbert Spencer, his sister Ollie Mae Thompson, grandson Sherman Spencer and lovely wife Novella Spencer of 60 years.
He will be forever remembered by his four children, Rev. Donald (Jennifer) Spencer of Monroeville, AL, Mary (Elder Booker) Presley of Schertz, TX, Nancy (Richard) Thornton of Leon Valley, TX and Reuben (Carrie) Spencer Jr, Foster son Joseph (Jennifer) Hancock, Foster son and personal care giver John Hancock of Mobile, AL.. His sisters; Bessie Thomas of Patterson, NJ, Gertrude (Walter) Taylor of Brownsmills, NJ, Rev. Ann Louise Palmore of Bronx, NY and Rev. Clara Baker of Paterson, NJ. His six grandchildren; Donald Spencer Jr, Jonathan Presley, Genise Presley, Colin Thornton, Talisha Presley and Myles Thornton. Three great grandchildren. Wille Jean Williams special cousin and dedicated friend. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Church family and wonderful friends. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 9 a.m. until the11 a.m. funeral hour at Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church #2. Rev.Hubert Baker, Pastor and Officiating Minister. Interment will follow in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens, Theodore, AL.
