Not sure what to say?

Mr. Herbst was my tennis and hockey coach at South High. He was the most influential teacher I've ever had. His maxim, "Mens Sana In Corpore Sano" (a sound mind in a sound body) has stayed with me through out my life.

Mr. Herbst was my tennis coach at old South High, Worcester, Mass. 1962-1965.
He was a great mentor and proponent of mental & physical health and lived by his words. Its been many years since we have spoken, but his teachings will be with me for a life time...What a great long life he led...

Mr Herbst was my gym teacher at South High School from 1976-80. He was also our football coach. I will never forget the "Daily Dozen" Exercise Regiment that he employed. Mr Herbst was the best coach and teacher that I ever had. I am sorry to hear of his passing. I will always remember him fondly.

Great coach and outstanding person.
My best memories of South High are of Mr. Herbst and the SHS hockey team

Mr. Herbst had a very important influence on myself and many of my brothers. Men sana et acorrora sana was instilled by this great coach at the high school level and stays within my soul to this day. His attitude on living life and striving to do the best you can be still lives within this South High alumnus. Mr. Herbst's spirit continues forever. God speed Coach. Sincerely, Stephen P. Johnson, Class 1960 South High School

Richie and I were alter boys at St. Paul's Church, and we frequently tossed baskets on court in St. Paul's schoolyard. I've thought of him often over the years although we were miles apart.

Mr. Herbst was a great teacher and coach...He understood the difference between physical fitness and gym...He also valued his students

My condolences to the Herbst family. Coach Herbst was my football coach at South. He was a great life teacher as he taught us not only phys ed. and sports but how to live good lives.
A true character who will be missed.
