Hintz, Richard L., PhD, asleep in Jesus, Saturday, April 2, 2022. He was born in Norwalk, Ohio, a son of Harry and Madelyn (nee Reitzel) Hintz. Rich retired from Monsanto as a Statistics Manager in 2006.
He earned a BS in Animal Science with a minor in statistics from The Ohio State University. Rich then earned his MS and PhD in Animal Breeding and Genetics from Cornell University. He was a member Phi Kappa Phi too. After receiving his degrees, Rich taught in the Animal Science department of Oklahoma State University as an associate professor. He used his skills in animal breeding and genetics to assist numerous zoos with their breeding programs. Rich eventually became the manager of a statistics group in the Animal Science Division of Monsanto. While working for Monsanto, he helped their work on somatotropin in relation to dairy cattle and milk production.
Throughout the years, he was an avid collector and friend of Lowell Davis. Eventually, Lowell would be a major reason he would meet his wife. Rich also enjoyed reading, watching movies (especially westerns), cheering for the Cardinals and Indians, and going on trips around the country with his family. He was heavily involved with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. During his son’s time in the scouts, he served in various roles. For Cub Scouts he was a Den Leader and Committee Chair for Pack 855. In Boy Scouts, he served as the Advancement Chair for Troop 677. He went through Wood Badge as a Beaver, and he served on the District Eagle Board of Review. Rich made a point to attend numerous scout outings with his son, even a Deep Sea Fishing High Adventure trip. One of his biggest hobbies was supporting his son. He never ceased to remind his family of his love for them. Rich possessed a wonderful sense of humor, a great smile, and incredibly sharp memory. He was follower of Christ who had a deep faith and attended King of Kings Lutheran Church in Chesterfield, MO.
He is the beloved husband of Candace "Candy" Hintz (nee Salomon), and loving father of Cole Hintz. He is also survived by his aunt Irene Reitzel and many special nieces and nephews. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Harold "Skip" Hintz, Helen Hintz, and Steven Hintz.
