Robert Freier Willan

I had the honor of serving with Cdr Willan aboard the USS Juneau(LPD-10).He was the best Officer and most importantly the best person I served with in the Navy.

Bob was the true LDO in the Navy and in his life. Lead, Demonstrate and Observe and you will train your friends and family well. My 2 years with him at CNSP were the best I had in the Navy and in where I have come to now. My sincerest condolences. May God bless him and you. I know he will continue to look over us all.

Bob was a friend, role model and mentor to much of the Navy LDO Community on the West Coast. Technical competence is a given in our community, but Bob took it to a new level. As a friend and mentor, Bob could always be relied upon to give sage advice -when requested-. He would allow us to make our mistakes because that was a part of growth. In the 15 years I knew him, I don't think I EVER heard him speak in a raised voice or unkind manner. Rest In Peace, my friend, you earned it.

Robert (Papa) will always hold a special place in my heart. He truly was a good, hard working, honest, fun loving, family man. He was generous and forgiving, kind and compassionate. He absolutely loved to spend time with his family. He was there for every birthday, soccer game, and graduation without fail. You will be sorely missed my friend, but may you rest in peace knowing that your son will continue to take excellent care of your family.

With the early passing of my own father in my teens, Bob more than filled the position with his help and guidance and understanding. If not for Bob being a part of my life I don't know where I would be today. God be with you Bob, My love, thoughts and prayers to Bert,Dan,Corey,Tim & Nate.

Bob was a great man, and a great father, and a great neighbor. We thank him for his long years of service for this country. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bert,Dan and the grandchildren. He will be missed ....

I had the distinct pleasure of working with and enjoying his friendship while we worked together at COMNAVSURFPAC. I will truly miss Robert. My prayers and thoughts go out to Roberta, Dan and his children. God Bless.
