Samuel Irle Jones

Samuel Irle "Earl" Jones, 89, of Buckingham, Virginia, died on Friday, June 18, 2010, in Charlottesville, Virginia.

He was born on June 1, 1921, in Buckingham, to Tom and Charlotte Onion Jones.

His graduated Buckingham Training School. He briefly worked in the West Virginia coal mines, then went on to become a foreman and master brick mason for the Robert Maxwell Company and the Heischman Company. He later formed a partnership with his brother-in-law, Rolf Leon Jones Sr. He served on the Buckingham County Board of Equalization and volunteered at the election polls. He was owner of the Glenmore Heights Subdivision of Buckingham County. He was a member of the Jerusalem Baptist Church where he served as usher and chairperson of the trustee board.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Hazel Jones Jones.

He is survived by one sister, Emma Viola Vaughters Brown; four children, Yvonne Wyonette Brown and her husband, Warren Jr., Gwendolyn Ruth Jones, Velma Park Jones, and Thomas Irle Jones; four grandchildren, Tina Dodson and her husband, Earl, Shannon Brown, W. Gamaliel H. Brown III and Hunter Brown; three great-grandchildren, Damien, Demetrius, and Haley Dodson; and sisters-in-law, Mary S. Jones, Beatrice J. Jones, Lucy T. Jones; and nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Final arrangements are by the Reid's Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 111 Jerusalem Church Road, Buckingham, Virginia, 12 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010. Interment and repast will be at Slate River Baptist Church, 3409 Slate River Mill Road, Dillwyn, Virginia.

Monetary memorial contributions may be made to Jerusalem Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Samuel I. Jones.
