I was a student of Lothar's at the University of Kansas in 1965-66 and owed much of my love for German to him (I later did graduate work at the University of Freiburg in Germanistik and came back to Kansas for a Master's). Sherry and I were, I believe, also taking Russian at the time – and I remember spending at least one Saturday night sitting on the floor of their living room talking about Old Church Slavonic.
