The Rev. Dr. Troy Lee Walsingham of Dothan passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Flowers Hospital, he was 85. Rev. Walsingham was born January 25, 1931 in Wausau. He graduated from Vernon High School in 1949. On September 6, 1952 Jenell and Troy were married. Six months later he was drafted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He attended the University of West Florida and Florida State University- Panama City Campus to become a certified Vocational Education Instructor. He later attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Bethany Bible College and Seminary receiving his Masters of Ministry degree and his Doctor of Divinity. Rev. Walsingham was ordained to preach in 1961, and pastored numerous Free Will Baptist, United Methodist and Independent Christian Churches in Northwest Florida and Southeast Alabama. He touched many lives sharing his love of Christ with the Wiregrass for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Dee Carter Walsingham of Wausau.
Survivors include his wife Jenell Peterson Walsingham of Dothan, Alabama; three daughters: Diane Maertens Adams (Billy) of Slocomb, Alabama, Linda W. Garrett (Charles) of Dothan, Alabama and JoNell W. Kirkland (Kevin) of Dothan, Alabama; and one son: Edwin Walsingham (Laurie) of Chipley; seven grandchildren: Jason Maertens (Courtney), Brittany Adams, Timothy Garrett (Jamie), Troy Walsingham, Thomas Walsingham, Aaron Kirkland, and Anna Kirkland; six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Aline Strickland and Charlotte Rogers of Bonifay; three brothers: Carthel Walsingham (Dianne), and John E. Walsingham (Shirley) of Wausau, and Rev. Dr. Donal Walsingham (Beverly) of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; along with many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Grace and Glory Church in Chipley, with the Rev. Dr. Donal Walsingham officiating, and Rev. Dr. Sam Shumake assisting in the service. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home directing. The family receive friends 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Bro. Troy was so good to our family. When he served as minister at Big Creek Methodist Church he was faithful in visiting Aunt Lane, Aunt Alice, Aunt Sabe, and Aunt Dovie. When the great Aunts passed he wrote a poem about each of them. He did that for several in the community. He was loved by many in the Big Creek Community.
