Wally was a pivotal colleague to me, Randy Barker, Yujiro Hayami and others working on Asian agricultural economics in the 1970s. Our interactions included many valuable discussions on agricultural policy. He was always thoughtful, considerate, and knowledgeable. His contributions to Indonesian agricultural policy were critical in enabling that country´s food security. He was a mentor to many outstanding colleagues.
