Not sure what to say?

Dear Laura - Emmi and I were tremendously saddened to learn of Wally´s passing. The Roches have great memories of you, Wally and Phil in Indonesia, the Philippines, and at Stanford over the course of many years. Wally was my mentor, teacher, friend and protector. He will truly be missed. Our deep condolences to you and the family. Fred Roche

Wally was a pivotal colleague to me, Randy Barker, Yujiro Hayami and others working on Asian agricultural economics in the 1970s. Our interactions included many valuable discussions on agricultural policy. He was always thoughtful, considerate, and knowledgeable. His contributions to Indonesian agricultural policy were critical in enabling that country´s food security. He was a mentor to many outstanding colleagues.

A huge light shone on the United States and the world in the form of Walter Falcon. He came into prominence earning high and influential policy and leadership positions exactly when they were vitally needed. His ideas and energy lead to vast positive and lasting changes. And these changes have made all the difference. Timothy L. Bertotti USAID and IRRI
