Woodrow Meredith Obituary

Woodrow Wilson "Wick" Meredith, 88, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Born Aug. 19, 1918, in Louisa County, he was a son of the late Lewis Elish and Annie Laura Coffey Meredith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Kathleen "Kitty" Burley Meredith; a son, Woodrow W. "Rhody" Meredith Jr., and his wife, Janet; a loving granddaughter, Blaire Leigh Meredith; a sister, Charlotte Harlow and her husband, Clifton; a special sister in-law, Roberta M. Burley; and many in-laws, nephews, and nieces.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, and three sisters.
Wick was an active member of Moose Lodge # 715, where he received their highest degree of Pilgrim. He served as governor, past governor and for many years as secretary.
Wick was a veteran of World War II, serving five and one half years for the honor of his country. He was always proud of the service he provided. He was a longtime member of Euclid Christian Church and friend of Sardis United Methodist Church in Amherst, where he attended regularly.
Wick touched the lives of many of the youth in the Lynchburg area. He coached youth baseball for over 20 years and served as an assistant scout master for Troup 1, Westminster Presbyterian Church for many years. He loved the outdoors, sports, and working with young people.
A celebration of Wicks life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at Sardis United Methodist Church by Dr. Edward Parrish III, Dr. Wayne L. Meredith, and the Rev. Jack Bartee. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and other times at the residence.

My heart is sad tonigt because I just learned that I lost my uncle "Wick". He was my hero when I was a child, and I,m going to miss him. He has a wonderful Mother and loving brothers and sistes waiting on the other side for him. God bless you Kity and Rhody.
