Yvonne Kincaid Hogland, 70, formerly of Decatur, passed away at her home in Greensboro, NC on Friday November 9, 2012.
A celebration of her life will be held at Citty Funeral Home Chapel in Reidsville, N.C. on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends at the fountain area of Central United Methodist Church in Decatur, Sunday, November 18, 2012, 2 to 4 p.m.
Yvonne was born September 16, 1942, to the Reverend John J.P. Kincaid and the late Mae Geraldine Phillips Strickland in Greensboro, NC. She was the eldest of eight children. Yvonne graduated from Greensboro Senior High School, Greensboro College, Scarritt College for Christian Workers in Nashville, TN, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Yvonne moved to Decatur in 1967, to work for Central United Methodist Church. After her move to Decatur, she met and married her husband of 16 years, the late Jessie Howard Hogland. They had one child, Jessica Hogland Payne. Yvonne made her home in Decatur for more than 41 years. During that time she touched the lives of many children and families through her work and volunteering. Her enthusiasm and energy and love for children was an inspiration to those around her. She was retired from the Decatur City School System where she directed the Even Start Family Literacy Program. She previously taught preschoolers at Central United Methodist Weekday School. Yvonne served as an Early Childhood lab instructor for the United Methodist Conference, she led parent support groups for Parents and Children Together and volunteered for Hospice of the Valley. After relocating to the Reidsville, NC area in 2008 and later to Greensboro, NC, she became a member of a studio artists guild where she enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow artists and friends and won several awards for her work. She especially enjoyed painting watercolor portraits of children and nature. Her unique creative spirit, compassion for all people, energy and talent is a legacy she leaves with her friends and loved ones.
Yvonne is survived by one daughter, Jessica H. Payne (Larry) of Decatur; one step-son, Michael Hogeland of Midlothian,VA; her father, Rev. John J.P. Kincaid Sr. of Greensboro, NC; her brother, John J.P. Kincaid Jr. (Renee) of Greenville, SC; her sister, Diane K. Dean (Bobby) of Oak Ridge, NC; her step-sister, Kimberly Harless (Aubrey) of Effland, NC; her step-brother, Clark Ross (Pam) of Asheville, NC; her half-brother, Joel Kincaid (Denise Rotondo) of Apex, NC; and her half-sister, Luzette Kincaid of Ocala, FL. She is also survived by beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and 5 step-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and mother, she was preceded in death by her brother, Steven Kincaid and step-mother, Nancy Kincaid.

Your mom was so sweet and a wonderful volunteer at Hospice of the Valley. She made the most beautiful Christmas cards that I enjoyed receiving each year! You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
