William Sindledecker Lehigh Acres, FL
William Sindledecker, 81, of Lehigh Acres, died Wednesday, January 13. 2010. Bill, or "Pop" as known by friends and family, was born to the late Arnold and Thelma Sindledecker on July 1, 1928, in Clarksburg, WV. Bill entered the armed forces in 1945, where he excelled and joined the Airborne Rangers in 1955.
He married Nancy Williams in 1966, and they lived together in Alabama, Panama Canal Zone, Port Charlotte, FL and Naples, FL before relocating to Lehigh Acres in 2008.
Bill was an accomplished armed service veteran with tours in Korea and Vietnam.
He was mentioned in the book "The Only War We've Got: Early Days In South Vietnam" by Daniel Ford, highlighting his skills in the field.
He was an experienced master carpenter and handyman with an unmatched work ethic and always had a smile on his face. He performed all types of handyman and home remodeling tasks right up to his death.
Bill loved to run and work out, read, fish and hunt and especially, dance.
He loved raw oysters and cold Corona with lime.
He had a passion for life that was infectious to those who had the pleasure to know him.
Bill was predeceased by his sister, Zina Prince; and is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Sindledecker; and sisters, Joanne Combs of Lehigh and Dixie Clemens of Tennessee; six children, Bill Sindledecker Jr. of Naples, FL, Shelia Pedigo of Glasgow, KY, Kathy Sindledecker of Columbus, GA, Rick Furlong of Port Charlotte, FL, Arnold Sindledecker of Naples, FL and Howard Sindledecker of Port Charlotte, FL. He also is survived by 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held (TODAY) Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens, 1589 Colonial Blvd., with funeral to follow at Royal Palms Cemetary in Punta Gorda Florida at 1:00 p.m.
