John Markell, Jr.

John Markell, Jr. "Jack", 98, of Naples, Florida, passed away December 31, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Josephine "Mark" (Van der Voort) Markell, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jack is predeceased in death by his parents, John and Isabella (Banks) Markell, as well as sisters Isabella M. Powel and Marion McAdoo.

Jack was born in Duluth, Minnesota, April 30, 1918. As a youth he lived in Missouri and Chile. He is a graduate of Gilman School, Yale, MIT and Johns Hopkins. During WWII he was a carrier-based aviator in the 3rd Fleet in the Pacific. He worked as a mechanical engineer early in his career and later as a financial analyst in New York.

He was a member of the St. Elmo Society, Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi and Gibson Island Club. Jack enjoyed sailing and playing golf. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.

Cremains will be interred St. Christopher's Church, Gibson Island, Maryland. No services will be held.
