Willie Allen Stallings

TRENT WOODS - Willie Allen Stallings, 70, died Friday, February 1, 2013, following a valiant battle against colon cancer. He was born in Wayne County on November 19, 1942, to the late James Walter Stallings Sr. and Charlotte Daughety Stallings. Willie was self-employed as a realtor and general contractor. He retired from the North Carolina National Guard and was a graduate of the Command General Staff College. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam, earning numerous awards, foremost among them the Silver Star for Gallantry. In August of 2012, Willie was inducted into the North Carolina Military Academy Hall of Fame.

Willie is survived by his wife Jane Johnston Stallings of the home; daughter, Wendy Stallings Radcliff, husband Stacy, grandchildren Laurel and Ian of Greenville, NC; son Billy, his wife Christi, grandsons Caden and Christian of Kinston, NC; his sisters Ava Wilkins, and husband Gordon, of Cape Carteret, NC; Betsy Jones, and husband David, of Kinston, NC; his uncle Willard Stallings and wife Valera of Kinston, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Willie was a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather. He was fiercely competitive in whatever sport or hobby he participated in. He was an avid sailor and his latest hobby, Autocross, afforded him many hours of enjoyment. Willie was an artist, the barbecue king, a historian and lover of music. He was a generous and wonderful friend, possessing a huge heart and sincere interest in the lives of those he cared for.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Bill Hawkins officiating. The family will receive friends following the services in the Session House. Major Stallings, Ret. will be interred, with full Military Honors, at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
