John Cawley Obituary

Funeral services for John E. "J.C." Cawley, 80, of Willoughby, will be held 5:30 p.m. Thursday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. A prayer service will also be held 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Cawley passed away Monday, May 16, 2011, at Lake West Medical Center in Willoughby, with his family at his side.
Born March 31, 1931, in Riley, W.Va., he had been a Lake County resident for more than 40 years, living in Willoughby.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War, was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Mentor, loved being with his family and enjoyed golf and bowling.
Mr. Cawley was a retired steel worker from L.T.V. Steel, formerly Republic Steel, retiring after 32 years. After retirement, he delivered cars for dealers all around Northeastern Ohio.
He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Gertrude T. (Taylor) Cawley; loving father of Karen A. (Charles) Thomas of Mentor, Eric E. (Paula) Cawley of Piney View, W.Va., and Steven L. Cawley of Mentor; cherished grandfather of Heather Smith, Jason Thomas, Brandy Thomas, Aven Harwell and Jessica Cawley; great-grandfather of Garrett Smith, Kaitlyn Thomas, Jason F. Thomas Jr., and Jacob Bortz; brother of Frank (Peggy) Cawley of Baltimore, Md.; and brother-in-law of Rae Cawley of Baltimore, Md.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Anthony Smith; parents, Howard Cawley and Frances (nee McGraw) Lowell; and siblings, Betty Lorenzo, Joyce Cawley and Arthur Cawley.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pastor Phillip Hilditch of Victory Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township.
