CARTHAGE - Funeral services for Mr. Bailey E. Thompson, 66, of Carthage, Texas, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel, with Mr. Stephen Wiggins and Mr. Herb Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery in the Del Ray community of Panola County, Texas, under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. Thompson passed away March 22, 2011, in Longview, Texas.
Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today, March 25, 2011, at the funeral home.
Mr. Bailey Evans Thompson was born January 6, 1945, in Marshall, Texas, to Clint and Lavenia English Welding. He was raised in Carthage, adopted by his stepfather William Warner Thompson and graduated with the class of 1964.
Bailey served his country through the U.S. Army. He met and married Camie Jo Jeffress on December 18, 1970, and they celebrated 40 years together, raising three daughters in a loving home.
Mr. Thompson retired from Texas Eastman in 1995. He enjoyed his time outdoors hunting and fishing and time with friends playing dominoes and telling stories. He walked the relay for life in 2010 with his granddaughter Shelby Cammack. Bailey was a longtime member of Carthage Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and adopted father.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his devoted wife, Camie Thompson of Carthage; daughters, Karen Hodge and husband, John, of Midlothian, Phyllis Cammack and husband, Chris, of Beckville, and Sherry Maxwell and husband, Bryan, of Kilgore; brother, Jerry Thompson and wife, Cathy, of Marshall; half brother, Randell Welding and wife, Cindy, of Greenville; half sister, Tammie Welding of Greenville; mother-in-law, Oretha Jeffress of Carthage; brother-in-law, Dean Jeffress and wife, Jane, of Carthage; sisters-in-law, Pat Bertram and husband, Rodney, of Longview, and Macy Johnson and husband, Ray, of Carthage; six grandchildren, Zackary, Chase and Shelby Cammack of Beckville, Blake and Kelsey Hodge of Midlothian and Amanda Beauchamp and husband, Dustin, of Waxahachie; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brett Thompson, Blake Hodge, Tod Boothe, Todd Sawyer, Jim Altman and Rick Johnson.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Shelby Cammack Fund at the First State Bank of Carthage.
