LILLIAN BROOKS Obituary

Lillian Elizabeth Brooks, 58, Lake Helen, better known to all as "Stumpy" was born January 23, 1954 in Lake Helen, Florida to Earnestine Smith Brooks and Burrell Wesley Brooks Sr. (both deceased). Lillian was employed by the Brunswick Defense Corporation for 19 years; she also worked for CareMost, Dot's Tot's Daycare and Everyday Angels, Inc. At an early age, she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church and served dutifully. Later, she became a part of the family at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, serving as Youth and Choir Directress, the Mission Ministry; and many other capacities. With a God given talent to sing and direct, she organized the Lake Helen Community Christmas Program and was affiliated with countless groups and choirs. Lillian was the guardian of Akira Whites and foster parent to Natasha and Brianna Myles and a caregiver to a host of other family, friends and community children. In addition, left to cherish her memories are her sisters, Sherel Powell (Charles) and Gale Farmer (Earl) and her brother, Burrell W. Brooks Jr., all of Lake Helen; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many devoted friends, church family, community friends and loved ones. Her life will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the Greater Union First Baptist Church, 240 South Clara Avenue, DeLand, Rev. Troy Bradley Sr. and Pastor Eugene Collier, officiating. Her pastor, Reverend Herman Roberts will deliver the main eulogy. Visitation will be held today (Friday) from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at J. E. Cusack Mortuary and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Greater Union. Burial will follow the service at Suber Memorial Gardens, Lake Helen and repast to take place after the interment at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Lake Helen.
