FLORA BENHAM Obituary

Flora A. Benham, (nee Smith) 91, of Edgewater, passed away Monday, April 19, 2010 in Edgewater. Mrs. Benham, daughter of Arthur and Flora Smith, was born in Cleveland, OH on July 11, 1918. She grew up in North Madison, OH and lived for many years in Geneva and Ashtabula, OH before moving to Edgewater in 1979. Flora married Donald J. Benham on January 17, 1941 and was a homemaker all her married life. She was a member of Edgewater Union Church where she was involved with many of the church's support groups, especially Helping Hands. She was an officer in the Ashtabula Girl Scout Council during which time she traveled to San Francisco where she met and talked with Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts. She was also an active member of Lake Avenue United Methodist Church, Ashtabula. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Donald J. Benham; three daughters, Judy Aley of Crosswicks, NJ; Pamela Goddin of Cleveland and Diane Blevins of Vista, CA; six grandchildren, three step grandchildren; five great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren. Memorial service will be 11AM Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Edgewater Union Church, 500 S. Ridgewood Ave., Edgewater, with Rev. Ned Michael, Pastor, officiating. Cremation will be by Dudley Crematory, New Smyrna Beach. Her ashes will be buried in Madison, OH with her parents and sister, who preceded her in death. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange 32129.
