Richard Sydney Hall

Richard Sydney Hall, 77, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Sterling House of Palm Coast. He was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio graduating in 1953 from Shaker Heights High School. He then continued his education at Yale University graduating in 1957 with a degree in American Studies. During college he moved with his family to Washington, DC. After college Richard attended Navy Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island and then served three years as a communications officer on a ship stationed in Long Beach, California. After his Navy service, he spent the first 12 years of his 32 yr. involvement in the telephone industry in engineering and construction and the last 20 yrs. engaged in the human resources aspect of the business. He and his wife, Lynne, settled in Beltsville, Maryland where they raised one daughter and four sons. During these years he served as a leader in the Boy Scout program and helped coach many of his children's sports teams. As a result of the realignment of telephone companies Richard was able to take early retirement and moved to Palm Coast in 1989. In Palm Coast he became an active member and two time president of the Flagler/Palm Coast Kiwanis Club. Continuing his love of music which began as a boy soprano at the age of 8 he sang with the Palm Coast Mix-N-Match Chorus and for many years was the song leader for his Kiwanis Club. In Palm Coast he also served as president of the Life Member Club of Telephone Pioneers of America and was employed as a toll taker at the Hammock Dunes Toll Bridge. Richard is survived by his wife of 54 yrs., Lynne, one daughter, Deborah McVeigh (Jerry), Beltsville, MD, four sons, David (Sue), Finksburg, MD, Daniel (Eva) Kennesaw, GA, Donald, Villa Rica, GA, Dennis, (Lori), Jessup, MD., and seven grandchildren, Patrick, Shannon, Kyle, Hannah, Jordan, Jacob and Justin, also two sisters Barbara Nahra (Joe) Ohio, and Roberta Benson (Roger) Arizona and sister-in-law Bonnie Smith (Dow) Albany, NY. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2013, 1:00PM at the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, Flagler Beach.
