I am an Army Wac, last of them before I became Regular Army and wore CDR Charlie James, Jr POW bracelet. It was even more important to me because he became a POW on my birthday. I recently found the bracelet and my plan was to either return to him to let him know even Veterans cared and if he never returned I wanted to give to the family so they knew someone cared. To this day I would still want to return to the family. Researching his name I was elated that he made it home but upset to find this obituary before I could honor him with my MIA bracelet.
I would still want his family to have this and let them know a Vietnam Veteran, female cared.
Please write my email As I sincerely feel this bracelet belongs to the family as a remberanance of their Hero
My email: [email protected]
Honored always,

I too, have CDR. Charlie James' POW bracelet. I have always kept him in my prayers. I've searched for him over the years with no luck. I saw a news report recently talking about the bracelets and how the gentleman being interviewed had found his POW who was still alive. I decided to look for CDR. James one more time. I'm so sorry to hear he has passed but also was so glad to learn he survived being a POW. He's a hero to all and we are indebted for his service and personal sacrifices. I would also like to return his bracelet if you would like to have it. Sending prayers to all his family and may Good Bless You All.

I wore CMD James's POW bracelets for many years until I saw his name as one of the released POWs. I prayed for him every night and was so happy to know he survived. I still have his bracelet and if any of his family would like to have it please let me know.

I was clearing out my 90 yea old mother's house when I came across my high school memory box. Inside I saw the MIA bracelet I wore through high-school, the name on the bracket is Charlie James Jr. who went missing 5-18-68. I remember wearing this bracelet with pride and I prayed every night for his safe return along with my father who also was away at war, we were living in military housing at Camp Pendleton, CA. . I also prayed for his wife and children
I didn't know if he had children but I knew exactly how it felt not knowing if you would ever see your father again. That was a scary time for me and others. I was so happy to read he was found and lived a long honorable life. RIP Charlie James your an American hero. I see there are many more who wore his bracelet and have offered to send them to a family member. I also offer the same.

I wore Charlie James' POW bracelet for years not knowing he had survived and returned home safely. It was only shortly after his death did I learn the rest of the story. To this day the bracelet sits on my mantle and will till I'm gone. I only wish I could have told him how much his service meant to me.

I too wore my Charlie James Jr. POW bracelet for many years never learning of his fate until today thanks to the Internet. I was thrilled to hear that he was released in 1973 and went on to live a good life. I still have his bracelet on my mantle and remind all who see it of the sacrifice he and so many made.

An inspirational role model as my commanding officer. His warm smile and down to earth approach to leading made even an new AMSAN feel part of the team. Following the Forrestal fire, my squadron, RVAH 11 was redeployed on the Kitty Hawk in August, 1967. Cdr. James joined us as Executive Officer at that time. He was a consummate professional and a gentleman. It was an honor to serve under him, and we all were shocked and saddened to learn that his plane had been shot down over North Viet Nam. He and his BN, Vince Monroe were both injured and taken prisoner. Monroe died in captivity, and James was released at the end of the war. Capt. James, you have earned your eternal reward.

Charlie was a very modest man. His obit
does not mention how many, many times his aircraft was hit nor how many times he landed a gunfire damaged aircraft
on an aircraft. Charlie had CLASS.

While I didn't know the Captain I did serve under him when I went to Boot Camp at RTC Orlando between January and March 1974. I later served in the RVAH Community from March 1975 to March of 1979 and probably worked on aircraft the Captain had flown when he was with Heavy Attack Community. Captain James and his fellow Heavy Attack aviators have, and always will be, my heroes and I'm proud to say that I served with and under the best of the best.
May Captain James have fair winds and following seas on his final adventure into eternity.
