Jerry and family,
Thank you for sending me a letter and a copy of the obituary. I want to express my condolences and share some thoughts. I was very fortunate to be able to listen to Basil's stories and to fly on the 909 with Basil in the Spring of 2014 in Dallas. He was a fascinating man and an inspiration. He later met my brother Mick and we have all shared many stories and photos. I saw Basil last year in Dallas and was hoping to see him again this year. I think about Basil often and I know that meeting him has been one of the highlights of my life (I think my brother Mick would agree.) I know he was an inspiration to many people and will be missed.

Jerry, Phyllis and family, I am sorry to hear about Basil passing away. Basil was a great man. I met him a two summers ago when he drove to Blaine, MN to see his B-17, the 909. Basil stayed at my house over that weekend. I enjoyed talking with him and hearing his stories. He took me under his wing that Saturday morning and brought me up into the cockpit of the 909. Basil had me sit in the pilot seat while he sat in the co-pilot seat and told me about his service during WWII. I had the privilege of sitting up there with Basil for over an hour asking questions and listening to him. Last summer I met up with him when he was in Waterloo Iowa with the 909. He was able to fly the 909 from Mason City to Waterloo. It was a joy seeing Basil again and listening to his stories. I was hoping to see him again this spring down in Dallas when the 909 flies through but that will not happen. I will cherish the time I was able to spend talking with Basil. He was a wonderful man and I will miss him as will my family.
