Tracy Jewell Obituary

Tracy A. Jewell

Tracy A. (Sutherland) Jewell, 48, of Willard, Missouri, went home to be with the Lord on December 22, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born August 9, 1963, to Jerry and Celia Sutherland in Springfield, MO.

Tracy was married to Christopher F. Jewell in 1984. Chris and Tracy were truly life partners, and never was this more beautifully displayed than in these last three months as Chris loved, cared for, and honored his beloved Tracy. To their union three children were born - Tyler, Megan, and Caitlin. Tracy was her kids' biggest supporter, devoting herself to their care, their activities, and their friends. She was like "mom" to many of their friends who spent time in their home. She very much enjoyed attending her girls' basketball games and Tyler's guitar performances. She was also a master homemaker who loved cooking and entertaining. She had a flair for flower gardening, landscaping, and photography which made her home a beautiful place to live and visit.

Tracy was perhaps best known for her dry wit and fun-loving sense of humor, a trait which made her a joy to be around. To know her was to love her. Tracy was a 1981 graduate of Fair Grove High School, where she formed many lifelong friendships. She then attended College of the Ozarks, where she met her husband Chris and made many treasured friends.

Tracy chose to trust Jesus as her Savior at an early age and served Him faithfully through the years at her church, at her home, and through serving friends and family.

Tracy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Tracy and Bula Sutherland of Fair Grove, and Chauncey and Ruth Miller of Springfield; and her father-in-law Willis Jewell of Springfield. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Chris, and their children Tyler, Megan, and Caitlin; her parents, Jerry and Celia Sutherland; twin sister Trudy (Sutherland) Powell and her husband Mark and their children Haley, Kami, and Braden; her sister Lori (Sutherland) Vaughn and her husband Michael and their children Sophia and Natalie; her mother-in-law Hatsuko Jewell, and sister- and brother-in-law Tina and Jack Phillips and their daughter Amber. Also surviving are many dear aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who meant so very much to Tracy.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in Springhill Baptist Church (N Farm Rd 159 & State Hwy WW), Springfield MO, with Rev. Kevin Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Comfort Cemetery, Springfield MO, with Rev. Don Powell officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2011 in Greenlawn Funeral Home East.

In lieu of flowers, Tracy wished for donations to be made to Springhill Baptist Church missions or Mount Comfort Cemetery fund.

Jerry, Celia - if there is anything we can do to help you in this sorrowful time, we're just across the road. Can not begin to imagine what it is like to lose a spouse or a child, but have lost a mother, brother & cousin within 10 weeks of one another this past year. Everyone says time will heal. Believe me, and as you have had to learn in your past - it's true. Time seems to go so slowly, but true. All of the family is in our prayers

Dear Chris and famiy,

Our daughter, Elaine, just e-mailed us the news article on Tracy. We had prayed for Tracy when we heard she had cancer, but I'm still shocked over your loss. My Mom died at 46 years old, so I know the grief you are going thru. Our hearts are heavy for you. Please know we will be remembering you in prayer to the One who cares.

It's been 16 years since we lived in Fair Grove, but this comes with our deepest sympathy.

Love,
Phil and Sue Anne Dueker

I was so sorry to hear about the loss of a treasured family member. I read the tribe on Caring Bridge read by "Turdy" aka Trudy and am truly amazed. She is in a good place. Remembering the good times and laughing is the key to getting through this. God bless all of you.

Love,
Regina & Alexis Keeagn

I am so sorry to hear this. Tracy was always a delight! My mom has always talked very highly of her. She just had this personality that made you like her. :) My sister and I attended Strafford schools with her kids and she always came out of her way to make us feel apart at functions. You all are in our prayers. Krystal Buckley/Shawna Buckley

Tyler and family,
I am so saddened by the news of your mother's death. Though I never knew her personally, from the other messages I have read she was a wonderful Christian woman.
