Marilyn Virginia Zinter, 91, of Springfield, Missouri died February 18, 2014. Marilyn Zinter, was born October 11, 1922, the daughter of Elmer and Dulcie (Gooding) Gold of Hurley, Missouri. She was a loving wife of 56 years to Herman Robert Zinter who preceded her in death. Mrs Zinter passed away, surrounded by her family, after a brief battle with pneumonia.

Mrs. Zinter was a noted gardener and was well known for the beauty and variety of flowers that lined her yard. A long time Garden Club member, she also raised strawberries, blueberries and apples, sharing them with neighbors and friends.

Mrs. Zinter was proud of the work that she accomplished during WWII at Western Union Telegraph. She taught at the Western Union School in Springfield, during the war, to help train teletype operators. Western Union was a vital link in communication during the war, supported by a dedicated group of young women teletype operators. Mrs. Zinter received a commendation for her teletype work in Paris, Texas during troop deployments.

I think about you and grandpa nearly every day and I miss you both so very much. You were my best friend and biggest supporter growing up. You taught me so much and have always loved me unconditionally. I miss hearing you play "How Great Thou Art" on the piano. You were such a wonderful piano player. I loved walking around the garden with you and picking all of the strawberries and blueberries. I've never had a strawberry or blueberry that tastes even remotely close to yours. Oh, what I wouldn't give to be able to dial your number and hear "Zinter Residence" on the other end of the line! I'll never forget the time that you climbed up into the treehouse that grandpa built to pick apples and your neighbors asked what you were doing! You were the best grandma in the entire world and I'm so proud that you were mine. Please give grandpa a big hug from me. I love you both dearly.

I miss going to your house and having long talks on the back porch late at night in the summer. I miss putting puzzles together. I miss the smell of wood burning when I drove by your house. I miss you always telling me to make a hundred when i would leave. I miss you. I miss you so much at times it cripples me. It seems like it was yesterday you passed. My kids loved seeing you. You brought energy to us all. So much fun growing up so close to you. Not many can say that about their grandparents. You and Grandpa taught me so much. I am trying to pass it onto my kids. Although they may not remember much about you because they were so young, I think i talk and tell stories enough to them that they know enough to appreciate and love you and Grandpa. I know you are among the Angels in Heaven with God. I cant imagine a better place than Heaven if you cant be here. My love always.

Your Grandson who thinks about you and Grandpa nearly every day.

Dear Children and Grandchildren: Marilyn was indeed a most wonderful servant of Jesus by what she said and did. Truly, she and your Dad, were such a blessing to so many people including Kathy and myself. She so often would share generously the fruit from her
garden with us and so many others. May our loving, compassionate God and Savior comfort all of you with the peace He alone can give. Ron and Kathy Merritt
