Claiborne (Rooster) Dalton

GRETNA Claiborne Lee (Rooster) Dalton, 77, of 3833 Rockford School Road, Gretna, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at Gretna Health & Rehab.

Born July 10, 1933, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Percy Gold Dalton Sr. and Lannie Shields Dalton. Mr. Dalton was predeceased by a sister, Elsie Bosiger, and two brothers, James Curtis Dalton and Emmett (Bully) Dalton Sr. He was a farmer and a member of Zion United Methodist Church and Georges Creek Hunt Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Bennett Dalton, of the residence; one daughter, Debra Crews, and husband, Clay, of Hurt; one brother, P.G. Dalton Jr., of Gretna; one sister, Lucille Crawley, of South Hill; and two grandchildren, Jessica Crews and Brandon Crews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Harold Thornton. Burial will follow in the Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Nov. 7, 2010, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.
