Mildred Martin Obituary
Mildred Bailey Martin, 95, of Rustburg died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at The Carrington. She was the widow of Thomas Sydney Martin.
She was born April 24, 1915 in Campbell County. Mildred was the 5th of 12 children born to the late Oscar Taylor Bailey, Sr. and Martha Finch Bailey. She is survived by two brothers, Morris Bailey and wife Alice and Milton Bailey; two sisters, Katie B. Morton and Janice B. Driskill and her husband Ed, all of Rustburg; sisters-in-law, Eunice T. Bailey of Rustburg and Ora C. Bailey of Wytheville. Also surviving are many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Oscar Taylor Bailey, Jr., Claude Bailey and Lyle Bailey and four sisters, Myra B. Carwile, Iva B. Waller, Martha (Sis) B. Booth and Gladys B. Campbell.
Mildred was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church but had enjoyed attending Diamond Hill Presbyterian; her mother's church with her devoted cousin Nellie Finch, with whom she shared a deep love of cats. She was a hardworking and loving woman who was admired and adored by her family, an avid gardener who even into her ninety's was raising a garden and working on the family homeplace.
She was blessed to have devoted caregivers, who allowed her to live at home until the last several months, they were, Becky Almond, Dale Bradley, Cil Tweedy and Leah Childress.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday September 25, 2010 at Bethany United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ron Litten and Rev. Sam Caldwell, visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
