Wesley Irvan Obituary

Wesley Clarence Irvan Jr.

Wesley Clarence Irvan Jr., 88, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, in Lynchburg Health & Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Mildred Wade Irvan for 67 years.

Born March 26, 1922, in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late Wesley Clarence and Mearl Williams Irvan. He was retired from Lynchburg Messenger Service and attended the Church of God of Prophecy. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served in China during World War II.

He is survived by a daughter, Nellie Catlett and her husband, Vernon, of Lynchburg; two sons, Clarence E. Irvan, of Lynchburg, and Wesley "Buck" H. Irvan and his wife, Flora, of Richmond; six grandchildren; five

great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd G. Irvan and John Irvan, and one grandson, Matthew Buckley Irvan.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, in Fort Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. Gary Vernon officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Sept. 6, 2010, at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by American Legion-Post 16.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of God of Prophecy, 2600 Garfield Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24501, or to a charity of your choice.
