William Hunter (Bill) Motley

William Hunter (Bill) Motley, 81, of Amherst, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of Jake Alphin Motley for 55 years.

Born June 1, 1929, in Gretna, he was a son of the late John James And Willie Holt Motley. He was a retired teacher from Highland Springs, a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict and a former member of the Highland Springs Civitan Club.

He is also survived by a son, Darryl Motley, and wife, Tangie, of Amherst, and two grandchildren, Paul and Alex Motley, of Amherst.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, with Dr. Timothy Hazlett officiating. Burial will follow in the Amherst Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post #16 of Lynchburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at Driskill Funeral Chapel, Amherst, (434) 946-5529.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 451, Amherst, VA 24521.

I am so sad to hear of your loss Mrs. Motley. I was one of the nurses who had the honor of caring for your husband. He will certainly be missed. My sympathies to you and your family.
