Albert (A.G.) Gilson Denton Jr.

Albert (A.G.) Gilson Denton Jr., 79, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at Lynchburg General Hospital following a long illness. Born in Lynchburg on Dec. 21, 1930, he was a son of the late Albert G. Denton Sr. and Kittie B. Denton and was the husband of Phyllis Martin Denton.

Mr. Denton served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. He retired from General Electric with more than 20 years of service. He was a member of the Marine Corp League and the Moose Lodge # 715.

In addition to his wife, Phyllis, he is survived by two daughters, Kim D. Arthur and her husband, Allen, and Tami D. Smoot and her husband, Todd; three grandchildren, Allen Dale Arthur Jr., Michael Taylor Arthur and James "Tyler" Smoot; a great-granddaughter, Delaney Nicole Arthur; a sister, Bettie Denton Mayberry; a cousin, Jones L. Elliott Jr.; and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Arthur Denton and Kenneth Nelson Denton, and a grandson, Jonathan David Arthur.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of the Summit, Lynchburg General Hospital and Avante' for their compassionate care.

A celebration of A.G.'s life and faith will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel, Timberlake Road, (434) 237-2722, with the Rev. Stuart Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Sept. 28, 2010, at the funeral home.
