Bertie Carter Obituary
Bertie Falwell Carter, 96, of Charleston, S.C., and formerly of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, in Charleston, S.C. She is the widow of Thomas Davie Carter.
Born in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late James Conley Falwell and Berta McKenna Falwell.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, E. Walker Falwell, J. Daniel Falwell, Herbert B. Falwell and J. Conley Falwell Jr.; and two sisters, Sally F. Burley and Christine F. Burley.
Bertie was a member of Brookneal United Methodist Church, and was a loving wife and mother.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Grace Carter of Charleston, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2007, from Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Dr. Jerry Falwell. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2007, at the funeral home.

I am the great granddaughter of Bennie McKenna Smith, my grandmother was Sadie Smith Drinkard. I remember visiting with your mother when I was a child, with Sadie. I am so gald that you had her for so long. I wish my Sadie would have lived that long. She was a great person and loved the MckKenna family. I am truly sorry for your loss.
