CLEO HUFF Obituary

Cleo Slagle Huff

Cleo Slagle Huff, 91, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Harry Hill Huff. Born June 28, 1919, in Elizabethton, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Charles Slagle and Louise Sams Slagle.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister Ruth Crawford, and one half-sister, Nancy Mottern and a brother, Cecil Slagle

Cleo was a retired inspector for Stone Industrial Corp. in Maryland. Cleo was very outgoing, loved to dance, was an avid animal lover, and was always ready to greet a friend with a warm smile. All of her life Cleo was actively involved with her family and friends, she will be dearly missed. Cleo and her late husband were active members of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Maryland. There wasn't much she couldn't do when she put her mind to it; like learning to drive after she retired. Cleo stayed active as a member of the Senior Recreational Bowling League in Lynchburg, where she bowled into her 80s. She was of the Baptist faith, and dearly loved our Lord.

She is survived by one sister, Opal S. Blankenship of Lynchburg; nieces Brenda McGinness, Deborah Isenschhmid, and Sharon Lynn Hwang; nephews Jack Slagle, Carl Slagle, Arnold Slagle, and Gary Blankenship and two special friends, Barbara Relf and Susan Coghill.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Dear Aunt Cleo,

There are so many things I will remember.......I looked so forward to your visits or when we visited you over the holidays!! You always made it a party for us and I think our holidays would have been lonely without you and Harry!!

I told you soooo many things and you always listened......when I would take things to serious you always made it seem easier and showed me that better days are coming!

If it wasn't for you I don't think I would have ever met many of the other members of the family. You were the family connection for the Slagles and I am grateful to you for that!

We all told you Brenda, Lynn, Gary, Arnold and Carl that you were our second mother...you said it wasn"t the same as having your own children...I think you never realized that we really meant that to the bottom of our souls. You Aunt Cleo mothered so many. You were always thinking of your family.......!

Beautiful you and your abilities of making new friends to the end.....Susan, your new neighbors and the lovely young Tiffany!! So special.

There are many adjectives and sayings to describe you....tall, strong, intelligent, beautiful, funny, young at heart, sharp as a tack, you called an ace an ace and a spade a spade!

To my mama you were her sister and mother combined and her best friend. You looked after her and worried about her her whole life. I promise you I will look after her for the rest of her life.....you need not to worry anymore!! You always stressed to us how important family is and I will stand by my family here and in Switzerland!

I feel honored to have had an Aunt like you and you make me want to strive to be a better person, a better friend!

We could always count on you and your door to your home was always open to us as well as the door to your heart!

You make me smile when I think of you and I thank you for everything that you did for me and the family!!

In my mind I see you and feel you......You Will Always Go On!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love you forever and forever!!!!

Deborah
