Ethel May Harris

Ethel May Harris, 87, of Evington, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2010, at The Carrington. She was the wife of the late Garland G. Harris. Born Jan. 2, 1923, in Concord, she was the daughter of the late Otis Booth and Lila Atwell Mills Booth.

Mrs. Harris was a retired seamstress for Dale Garment and a member of Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by one son, Charles Luther Harris; one daughter-in-law, Peggy Harris; and eight siblings.

Mrs. Harris is survived by five children, Charlotte H. Watts, of Lynchburg, Shelby Jean Daniel and her husband, Rickey, of Altavista, Garland Gerald Harris Jr., of Lynchburg, Gary Otis Harris, of Forest, and Doris Gay Harris, of Evington; two brothers, Luther Booth, of Lynchburg, and Henry Booth and his wife, Helen, of Lynchburg; one sister, Ruby Ferguson, and her husband, Tucker, of Appomattox; daughter-in-law, Sandra Harris, and her husband, Bill, of Madison Heights; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at noon Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with the Rev. Dwight Weaver Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence of Doris Harris.
