Lillian Austin Smith

Lillian Austin Smith, 80, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Lynchburg Health and Rehab. She was the widow of Willie Benjamin Smith.

Lillian was born

Feb. 24, 1930, a daughter of the late Rachel and Nathan Austin. She worked as an operator for the Lynchburg Answering Service and was a member of Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church. Along with her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Lynch, and her brother, Paul Austin.

Lillian is survived by her two sons, Kenneth Smith and his wife, Debbie, and Reggie Smith and his wife, Carla, all of Lynchburg; her two sisters, Lee Wood and Rose Hahn; her brother, Otis Kit Austin; her two grandchildren, Jennifer and Darren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church, 20348 Leesville Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502, (434) 239-2568, or to a charity of your choice.

Lee and family, We are so sorry to hear of Lillian's death. Even though we have not seen her in a very long time, we will always appreciate what a nice person she was, and what a great job she did for the answering service, while employed with us. Love, thoughts and prayers to all of you.
