Phyllis Blankenship Bruffy

Phyllis Blankenship Bruffy, 80, of Lynchburg, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at Guggenheimer. She was the widow of Douglas William Bruffy.

Born in Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late John Otey Blankenship and the late Ruby Gray Blankenship. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl E. Blankenship and John W. Blankenship.

Phyllis was a retired employee of Craddock Terry Shoe Corp., after 20 years of service, and a member of Euclid Christian Church. Phyllis was an avid gardenerand enjoyed being outside tending to her many flowers and vegetables. She loved to cook for family gatherings, as well as "doing" for friends, family and neighbors. She loved her many pets throughout the years. In her finer years, she and her "Baldwin" sister hit many a yard sale and auction.

She is survived by three children, Deborah Bruffy Creasy of Cumming, Ga., Douglas "Billy" Bruffy Jr. and his wife, Charlene, of Roanoke, and Lisa Bruffy Elder and her husband, Mike, of Lynchburg; three brothers, J. Ray Blankenship and his wife, Priscilla, of Lynchburg, Frank C. Blankenship and his wife, Faye, of Goode, and Donald G. Blankenship and his wife, Barbara, of Bumpas; one sister, Rebecca B. Staples and her husband, Wayne, of Lynchburg; two sisters-in-law, Frances Blankenship and Catherine Blankenship; and three grandchildren, Matthew Creasy of Atlanta, Ga., Justin Creasy of Cumming, Ga., and Amanda DeCoursey and her husband, Chris, of Forest.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Dwight Weaver.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., today, Sept. 19, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
